Hormones and lung cancer

There is a new potential danger for women taking hormones for menopause symptoms: the pills may make lung cancer more deadly!

Research shows that women who had lung cancer and were taking a combination of estrogen and progestin pills were more than twice as likely to die from the disease as women who weren’t taking hormones.

Doctors have advised to limit hormone use as much as possible. The study does not suggest that women on hormones are more likely to develop lung cancer. (AP)

Women beware: New study related to breast cancer

Study says that drug combos may raise risk of breast cancer. Read on…

Researchers say that breast cancer survivors risk having their disease come back if they use certain antidepressants while also taking the cancer prevention drug tamoxifen.

Doctors say that some depression medicines such as Paxil, Prozac and Zoloft, can make tamoxifen less effective. They don’t know how much of a problem this is. But one new study finds that it might double a woman’s risk of having her cancer return.

Not all antidepressants interfere with tamoxifen, so women should talk with their doctors about which ones are safest. This is the result of the study by Medco Health Solutions Inc. that was released at a cancer conference in Florida. (AP)

Cup of tea

tea

Did you know that drinking very hot tea may cause throat cancer? A study by Iranian researchers states that people should let steaming drinks at least cool even a bit before consuming them. There were previous studies done that linked tobacco and alcohol with cancer of the esophagus. But this recent study published in the British Medical Journal suggests that scalding beverages may also somehow pave the way for such tumors.

Which is really sad because I love my drinks scalding hot. I often have a cup of tea in the afternoon and after dinner. Now I know I have to cool it down a bit lest I suffer in the future.

Yet another reason to lose weight…

According to a report by Reuters Health, new research shows both body mass index (BMI) and waist size influence a person’s risk of being hospitalized with heart failure or dying of the condition. The study reinforces the importance of maintaining a healthy body weight through diet and exercise.

This is why I am now making it a point to maintain the current weight that I have. It is so hard to lose weight especially if you are working at home.

6 Ways to Freeze the Crease

  1. Always wear sunscreen with SPF 15 to fight harmful UV rays, which can also come from indoor lights (not just from the sun).
  2. Adjust your computer screen to eye level to keep your posture straight when working at your desk. This helps in controlling the force of gravity that could cause your skin to wrinkle.
  3. Add the contents of vitamin E capsule in your honey mask and apply it on your face. Leave on for ten minutes, then rinse with warm water and pat dry. This is a quick fix for skin damage due to free radicals.
  4. Snooze off those wrinkles. Sleeping allows time for skin to recover and rejuvenate. Doze off only with one pillow to avoid having a ‘double chin’ and a ‘turtle neck’ in the long run.
  5. Exercise to keep your endorphins up. Engage in fun activities with family and friends.
  6. Quit smoking now and let your skin breathe better.

Interesting! No harm in trying, right?

About the creases

crowsfeet

Fine lines or static wrinkles are part of the skin’s natural aging process. They are more common with individuals who have dry skin due to frequent sun exposure, smoking and poor diet. For them, I advise the use of moisturizing creams. Deeper, more pronounced wrinkles or expression lines brought forth by muscle movement causing frown lines, crow’s feet, and smile lines may be best addressed by skin restoration systems that your dermatologist can tell you about.
