Is it bad luck if your lucky bamboo appears to be dying?

For Chinese people like me, a dying lucky bamboo represents bad luck. Well, I don’t really know the reason behind it. I was not a superstitious person growing up but I always hear it from the elders when there are family gatherings. I believe an aunt said that even before the lucky bamboo show signs of ‘dying’, it should already be out of the house so as not to bring in bad luck.
