When you need to get out…

…you look for the exit signs around!

exit_signWhen we were kids, we used to hang out at my dad’s office. While my mom was busy with her art gallery work, my dad would take me and my brother to his office. The first time he took my brother and I with him, he pointed all the important places, including the fire exits. I made sure that I remembered that. Well, it was easy! All I had to do was look for the big, lighted, red EXIT SIGNS.

My brother and I would race as to who could count the most number of exit signs we would see. We did not really grasp how important those signs were until the earthquake that shook the country back in the 90s. We were in my dad’s office that time because the whole family would be flying to Hawaii. My dad had to drop by his office because he needed to sign some important documents. Then the earthquake happened! I could still remember the panic that ensued. It was a very strong quake and everyone were rushing to get to the nearest fire exit. Luckily, my brother and I knew almost all the fire exits on the floor. We used the one that few knew existed. By then, we knew that the lighted, red exit sign that we always sought when we were kids is very important indeed!

Energy Star is a web site dedicated to informing everyone about the standards to be followed when choosing an Exit Sign. The web site will guide you in purchasing the right one. People who are in-charge of ensuring that every fire exit has an exit sign at the top of the door should go to EnergyStar.gov and get the information he or she needs.
